Knowledge is as infinite as the stars in the sky, yet the most valuable, the most useful, the most reliable knowledge is knowledge of our own mind. This is the lasting gift of the Dharma.

World Peace Ceremony

In 1989, TNMC organized and sponsored a World Peace Ceremony to be held at the site of the Buddha’s enlightenment in Bodh Gaya, India. This extraordinary initiative was to have a twofold purpose; to revitalize holy places of the Buddha and to establish a practical way of distributing the newly produced books to Tibetans who were spread throughout the region in India, Nepal, Sikkim, Ladakh, and Bhutan. Since then, the World Peace Ceremony, called Monlam Chenmo, has developed into a yearly event.

Over 20,000 people attend the Monlam Chenmo ceremony annually. With the firm intention that the Buddhist teachings reach as many people as possible, the sacred books produced by the Yeshe De project volunteers are distributed gratis to exiled monks and nuns along with lay people. In addition, more than 3,300 monasteries and educational institutes containing libraries that service a total of 70,000 people also receive copies of these traditional Buddhist texts. Never before has a similar book project of this magnitude been attempted. Thanks to all the people who support TNMC, the Yeshe De book project continues to this day.
