Application Process
We recommend reading all the information presented on this website about our Volunteer Work Exchange program before proceeding to the application. Please take the time to become familiar with the project, the program, and the organization. If you decide this opportunity is a good fit for you, the following information gives you all the details you’ll need to know about applying.
We have an intensive application process which can take up to 3-4 weeks. It includes an initial screening to determine the applicant’s ability to fulfill our guidelines and requirements. Please note that not everyone who applies is admitted into the program due to housing limitations, work availability, and other considerations. A representative from the Volunteer Office will contact you about the status of your application and inform you if the Volunteer Committee wishes to continue with the application process. This screening is followed by a phone interview and reference checks.
All applications, in order to be considered, must include the following:
- A fully completed application form
- A current photo clearly depicting the applicant’s face, may be alone or with friends and family. Digital photos (jpeg files) sent as an attachment in email are recommended.
- A total of 4 references, of which 2 must be professional or employment-related within the last 2 years. For personal references, please provide at least one person who has known you for over 10 years. Parents, family members, or close family friends are preferred. In addition, volunteer-related or school references may be used.
There is no cost to apply, but all volunteers must cover their own travel expenses to and from the program.
