Through work we can learn to use our energy wisely so that all of our actions are fruitful and rich.
Skillful Means
All volunteers of the Tibetan Book Project work in our on-site book bindery which is located on the 120 acre site of the Ratna Ling Retreat Center, The bindery the heart of the Tibetan Book Project where we produce the books that are given away annually to Tibetan monks, nuns and lay people.
The bindery houses a high-tech production line with both modern and age-old machinery. The working environment is fast-paced, production oriented, and high energy. Amidst the noise and dust, volunteers work on a cement warehouse floor, learning to use the tools of the bookmaking trade. Much of the work requires ample physical dexterity and endurance using repetitious movements of shoulders, backs, arms, and hands.
For a detailed explanation of the various stages of the book-making process please see the “Life of a Book” page.
