Volunteers working

Through work we can learn to use our energy wisely so that all of our actions are fruitful and rich.

Skillful Means

The Work

All the volunteers who are a part of the Tibetan Book Project work in our on-site bindery. This is the heart of the Yeshe De project where we produce the books that are given away annually to Tibetan monks and nuns.

The bindery houses a high-tech production line with both modern and age-old machinery. The working environment is fast-paced, production oriented, and high energy. Amidst the noise and dust, volunteers work on a cement warehouse floor, learning to use the tools of the bookmaking trade. Much of the work requires ample physical dexterity and endurance using repetitious movements of shoulders, backs, arms, and hands.

For a detailed explanation of the various stages of the book-making process please see the “life of a book” page.
